Grieving Dog Digs A Grave, Buries Deceased Pup In It, & Lays On Top For Hours
Bettie is a beautiful four-year-old dog who recently became pregnant in the Philippines, writes ilovemydogsomuch
Her owner, Lenny Rose Ellema, says her dog showed incredible maternal instincts during and after her pregnancy. Sadly, Bettie lost some of the puppies and she amazingly and instinctively did something to give them a beautiful goodbye.
The heartbroken mama dug a grave for her babies, placed them inside the hole, and covered it back up with dirt. Ellema told reporters when Bettie became pregnant a year later, she lost one of her pups. Bettie tried to revive her deceased pup by feeding him, but the little one had already passed away. Bettie engaged in the same behavior for her newly deceased pup.
“We did not train her to do it. We were amazed when she first did that last year with another puppy,” Ellema shared. “She is a special dog.”
Poor Bettie dug another grave, placed her baby gently inside the hole, and covered it back up with dirt. Ellema first tried to take the puppy away, but Bettie had her mind made up and would not allow it. The grieving dog lay next to the grave all curled up to mourn the loss of her beloved baby. According to reports, Bettie returned to her normal happy personality a few days later and took care of her new litter.
Our hearts are broken for the dog, but we are at peace that she’s able to carry on and tend to her surviving babies.
