Dalmatian Mother Gave Birth To Nearly A Record 16 Puppies

It’s always exciting when an animal gives birth — there’s few things cuter than a newborn baby animal. But one Dalmatian mom’s huge new litter really has people stunned… and making references to a certain Disney movie, writes theanimaljoy

Luna the Dalmatian was pregnant with a litter, and her Fredricksburg, Texas owners took her to the Fredericksburg Veterinary Center for an emergency C-section on June 24.

Five cubs were born naturally, according to KSAT, but a sixth was unable to emerge on its own. Veterinarian Brittni Turner performed the operation and helped Luna with the birth of her remaining litter.

But it was the size of the litter that surprised everyone – she gave birth to 16 cubs!

“I was so focused on getting ready for surgery that I didn’t even check the number of puppies,” Turner told KSAT. “When they were operating on us, he would take out one puppy at a time and we had to call all of our receptionists and staff so everyone on deck could help clean and resuscitate the puppies.”

The vet said it was the largest litter of dogs that had had a cesarean section. “The staff always said. `It is definitely not possible to get more and then I would get two more. It was absolute chaos. ”

Obviously, the whole scene is something straight out of the Disney classic 101 Dalmatians, and Turner says the vet staff make a lot of jokes.

Although not quite 101, Luna actually gave birth to a child bigger than the one seen in the cartoon (Pongo and Perdita gave birth to 15, the rest were adopted later.)

Keep them away from Cruella DeVil.
