The first of the 2 dogs was a Pit Bull Terrier mix that was found abandoned in the secluded Bowmanville area of the municipality. The dog was just a bag of bones by the time he was transferred to a veterinary hospital in Newcastle. The staff tried their best to keep him alive, but he succumbed to his critical health complications.

The second abandoned pooch was found 10 days later in Enfield Road. She was a black and white Pit Bull mix puppy and suffered from health issues related to starvation and neglect – parallel to the previously discovered dog. However this time, the vet staff was able to save the puppy’s life thanks to timely medical attention. The puppy has now been named Minnie and she is receiving good care in a foster home.

After almost 2 months of tireless investigations, the cops have tracked down a 28-year-old woman from Oshawa and a 34-year-old woman from Whitby to be the respective owners of the abandoned dogs. They have been arrested and charged with abandoning an animal, causing unnecessary suffering and distress to an animal, and violating the standards of care for companion animals.
