The dog, a 3-year-old German Shepherd, named Miracle, spent the next three months in the care of the Volusia County Animal Services. Miracle’s previous owner was barred from owning animals for five years and was ordered to pay over $1,100 in fines. As Miracle took steps to recovery with each passing day, her saviors watched as she fought to regain her life.

According to Animal Services Field Supervisor Alicia Dease, hundreds of people came forward to try and adopt Miracle since hearing of her story. Dease and her volunteers knew they found the right person to be Miracle’s owner when they met an army veteran named Ted and his wife, Bridget.

“Dogs talk to you. She never talked to anybody but me, but she talks to him. She has a lot to say. She gives a lot of kisses, and she worships him already, the same as she did me … and I am happy for that,” Dease shared.

Ted says he has been searching for a service dog like Miracle for a long time. He feels like having Miracle with him will be calming and help him feel more relaxed. He had no idea the dog he wanted to adopt was the same one who was thrown from a balcony. Both Ted and Miracle have been through many hardships, but the future is incredibly bright now that they found one another.
