Tony Dewindt of Kalispell, Montana was on Facebook when a social media post crossed his feed. It appeared that a dog was trapped in the freezing cold and shot twice in the head then left for dead. The injured animal was stranded in an area near the Hungry Horse Bridge.

“If my dog was trapped down there and I didn’t know about it, I would like somebody else to go down there and get him. I didn’t know if he belonged to somebody, I didn’t know his story, I just thought, hey there is a dog trapped down there and animal control can’t do anything until the morning, it’s snowing it’s blowing wind, that dog doesn’t deserve to be out on that island,” Dewindt shared.

Valor was covered in blood, freezing and very hungry. Dewindt used a makeshift catch-pole to reel the dog in. The duo shone their flashlights on the water and didn’t see the pup at first. On second look, they noticed Valor laying two feet from the water, all curled up. Thanks to whistling for the dog and the animal looking up, they saved Valor’s life.

The dog received urgent treatment at the Animal Clinic of Kalispell with donations from the Flathead Community. Remaining monies were given to a local animal shelter.

These days, Valor lives with Dewindt and his girlfriend and two other dogs. Valor reportedly never leaves Dewindt’s side. We are so happy for the pup’s happy ending.
