Before he was known as Tofu, the puppy was called Estabanado. And he lived in a shelter of the Animal Welfare Coordination of the municipality of Araraquara, in São Paulo (Brazil).

The dog arrived on the scene after being rescued from the clutches of an abusive owner who mercilessly injured him.

Like every puppy that gets a second chance, the rescuers hoped to find a good family for the dog, but the matter was not so simple.

The prospects for this little friend were not good, since most people prefer to adopt healthy puppies. But poor Tofu is a blind puppy, and his years have also brought him other complications.

It was difficult to find someone who loved him despite his old age and blindness.

Those in charge of the shelter loved the puppy very much, although they always knew that finding him a home was imperative. What they wanted most was to give him the opportunity to meet a real family before he left this world.

Tofu deserved to know love like any other creature.

As if his condition wasn’t difficult enough, a few years ago this dog underwent an operation in which one of his paws was amputated due to a tumor.

Each day that passed at the shelter decreased the chances that the little Estabanado puppy would make it out alive.

But divinity has rather curious ways of manifesting himself.

As it turned out, old age and the puppy’s painful story were the hook for someone to decide to open the doors of his heart.

According to Carolina Mattos Galvão, director of the shelter, one day she received a phone call: someone wanted to meet the oldest dog in the place.

And there was no one older than Estabanado.

That generous soul was dog trainer Danila Molinari, who at 39 was determined to give a canine grandfather a chance .

What Danila didn’t expect was the moving story of Estabanado.

As soon as she visited him, the woman was struck by a passion. And she felt that it was the good dog that had come into her life to fulfill one of her dreams.

“I always had a dream to adopt a handicapped dog, an old one and a deaf one. When I asked him which was the oldest dog in the shelter, I didn’t imagine that he was also visually and physically handicapped,” says Danila.

As soon as the adoption was finalized, the dog changed his name to Tufo, and together with his new family, this puppy is writing a new story.

“It was an indescribable feeling, something magical. I knew I wanted it, but I didn’t know it would be so good. He is very affectionate, he sleeps like an angel, he doesn’t get shocked by things anymore. My family is happy, he is happy, it is gratifying to have him here,” said Danila.

For all those who believe that life ends when they reach old age, we must tell them that all is not lost. No one knows when true happiness arrives, but in this particular case we are happy that it has finally arrived and in the way least imagined.

Danila’s decision deserves applause, for she gave herself the opportunity to love a being that others have never seen.

Tofu is now a loving dog and this owner has become his angel.
