Woman’s Family Dumps Her Dog With Huge Abdominal Tumor In Abandoned Field

Christy Smith was having a typical day and sat down to peruse the Internet. The woman’s heart sank when she stumbled on a Facebook post about a stray dog with a huge tumor hanging from her stomach, writes ilovemydogsomuch

With a moment’s notice, the dog-loving good Samaritan said to her daughters, “Girls, get your shoes on, we’re going to see if we can find this dog.”

On arrival at the scene, other people were trying to lure the dog to safety. The dog was both hungry and thirsty and Christy told the other people she would assume responsibility for the dog.

“I had never seen fleas so big on a dog in my life. … She cried and scratched all night,” Christy shared.

She named the dog Honey due to the color of her coat and dropped her off at the veterinarian for a thorough exam. Honey was diagnosed with a severe staph infection, ear infections, anemia, and a large mass hanging from her abdomen.

Christy started a Facebook group for Honey which led to an unexpected phone call. One of Honey’s previous owners called the vet clinic. She told Christy her relatives were supposed to take care of the dog after she had to move out. Sadly, this did not happen and the previous owner believes Honey was abandoned in a field.

The previous owner signed over ownership of Honey to Christy, who promised her she could visit the pooch. Christy is now working to get Honey healthy enough to withstand surgery to remove the huge mass from her abdomen.

“She is spoiled rotten, she’s getting really, really spoiled here, and she deserves it,” Christy shared.
