But they were exactly in the best circumstance. These poor dogs sought shelter in an abandoned home that was falling apart around them. It was freezing out in St. Louis, so the mama dog did everything she could to keep her tiny valentines warm.

Thankfully, rescuers from Stray Rescue of St. Louis came to save the day and give these dogs a second chance at an amazing, warm life.

When they arrived at the home, the mama dog began barking at them as they approached. She was extremely protective of her babies, and rightfully so.

They fed the mama dog in order to gain her trust and show her that they were just there to help them. They slipped a leash around her and led her through piles of trash and debris to safety.

Now it was time to bring her puppies out of that filthy place. They put them in a box and wrapped them up. They were brought out into the sunlight and felt warmth for the first time in their lives.

They were all brought back to the shelter, where the mama dog, now named Candy Heart, was happily reunited with her babies. As soon as she saw them, she immediately laid down next to them to keep them safe.

Once the puppies are older, they will be up for adoption, along with their mama.
