Dog Severely Injured In Crash, Shelter Asks Public To Help Raise Funds For Him

A vehicular crash in Winnfield, Louisiana, tragically killed the driver, 21-year-old Jacob A. Patton, while critically injuring his dog, Blue, writes ilovemydogsomuch

Reports say that Jacob was driving westbound when he lost control of his pickup truck. He subsequently went off the road and hit a tree, which killed him instantly on impact. Jacob was wearing a seatbelt.

The Louisiana State Police officers later arrived at the location and hauled a delirious Blue out of the wreckage. Blue was rushed to the Crossroads Animal Emergency Clinic in Alexandria, and placed under the care of the Heart of Louisiana Humane Society. Cops suspect high speed to be a possible factor leading to this catastrophic crash, but the investigation is still under way.

Blue’s injuries from being trapped in the crushed vehicle are pretty gruesome. He initially had blood in his abdomen, likely from vessel or spleen damage, and a fractured femur. The vet was worried he wouldn’t make it through the night, but the bleeding clotted off eventually.

However, Blue is not out of the woods yet. As per medical reports, Blue is looking at an extensive surgery involving pins and needles. However, an amputation will be considered if his situation worsens beyond control. Currently, the vet team is giving him time to stabilize as that will increase his survival chances.

Blue’s family is already going through a hard time coping with the death of a loved one, and they are now pleading people to help them save their precious dog.
