Bony Dog Living On Cement Slab Thanks Her Foster Mom For Making Her Pretty

When Aria first met Bella, her heart sunk. This poor abandoned dog was beyond thin; she was skin and bones, writes ilovemydogsomuch

She had just given birth to three puppies and was still nursing them despite her own condition. Aria knew this was an urgent rescue. Bella was friendly and warm. Even though she had been betrayed by humans, she still wagged her tail like crazy when she met Aria.

Aria put the puppies inside a box while Bella willingly climbed into Aria’s car. They raced to the vet clinic. The vet was honest. Two of the puppies were very weak and Bella was only 29 lbs. A dog her size should be twice that weight. It was a scary scenario and they all had to prepare for the worst.

The two puppies that were struggling sadly did not make it but the third one, Luka, began to thrive. Aria didn’t waste any time and lined up a home for Luka. He was just like his mom, friendly and sweet. Now that Luka was in a safe place, it was time to help Bella. Bella needed frequent feedings that were loaded with calories. The meals had to be small because her stomach had shrunk from starvation. Aria did a great job, as did Bella, staying on top of feedings.

In two weeks, Bella began to look like a much healthier dog. Her protein-rich meals were starting to pay off. The best part was seeing how thankful Bella was. She understood that Aria was saving her life. Her doggy smiles were priceless. She was always eager to snuggle with her foster mom. In fact, Bella was addicted to snuggling. It was adorable.

In the video below, Aria explains that teaching Bella how to be a dog was incredibly rewarding. Bella was very wary of other dogs at first. So Aria came up with a game plan. She introduced Bella to her shyest dog first. Her dog was very comfortable and confident but because he was also very sweet, Bella responded really well. In fact, she was wagging her tail at another dog for the first time!

Aria knew Bella’s backstory because she was there to save her. She knew she had never been outside of her cement slab, with a ten pound chain around her neck. Introducing her to grass was a pretty big deal! Especially when she took Bella to a meadow. Bella frolicked like crazy. She couldn’t contain her happiness. And Aria couldn’t contain hers.

As if things couldn’t get better for Bella, they did! Once Bella was comfortable off-leash, Aria took her to the beach! This is where Bella celebrated her new life. She ran up and down the sand with the cutest smiles and tail wags. For the first time, she loved being a dog which is what a dog is meant to feel.

Bella grew even more confident and followed Aria into the water to play fetch. As Aria says perfectly, Bella “blossomed into the dog she was meant to be.” Bella’s story is far from over. To see what happens next, and to celebrate her amazing life-saving transformation, check out the video by The Dodo below. We are so grateful for all those who helped in Bella and Luka’s rescue. And thank you to Aria. Dogs cannot be saved without amazing foster parents just like her!
