A dog, that had been starved nearly to death, lay up against the curb. When the woman came closer, the dog cried out. She was frozen in fear, desperate to understand why she’s in so much pain and if this woman would be cruel to her as others have in the past.

The woman’s heart just broke. She had never heard a dog cry out like that before. It was time to call a local rescue and save her life! When the rescuers arrived, they too couldn’t believe what they were seeing and hearing. This poor baby desperately wanted to live but she longed for the pain to stop.

They put the skinny dog into a large kennel. They had to get her to the vet clinic immediately! The woman who first laid eyes on the poor dog wanted to do all she could to help her. She asked the rescue if she could be the pup’s foster mom and they agreed!

The sweet dog was extremely timid and deathly afraid of humans. This was going to take a lot of work. Building her trust and getting her comfortable was her foster mom’s first priority. The woman worked hard every day to bond with the sweet girl. And before long, the dog was giving her kisses and eating out of the palm of her hand.

Still, she had challenges. She spent a lot of her time indoors hiding behind a chair. She was afraid but also felt unworthy. As if her trauma defined her, she didn’t feel she deserved to be loved and cared for. And we all know, that is far from true.

Thankfully, with lots of love and consistency, the dog began to trust other people she met, and grew to love her doggy foster siblings. Her first tail wags made her foster mom joyfully scream out. This dog was going to make it!

We are so grateful for this rescue! The sweet pup is still in her foster home, working hard to put on weight and learn what it means to be LOVED!
