Heavily Pregnant Dog Surrendered To Local Shelter Emaciated And Covered In Fleas

Food is one of the most vital needs for shelters and rescue organizations. For many of these groups, after food costs, they have little or nothing left in their budget for medical treatment, vaccines, or adoption programs. That’s why GreaterGood.org’s Rescue Bank is hosting a pet food drive to ship food to shelters and rescue groups across the country – so they can save more animals like Oreo, writes blog.theanimalrescuesite.greatergood

A Great Dane named Oreo was an owner surrender. 4 Paws 4 Rescue received her covered in fleas, and they could tell that she was skinny despite being heavily pregnant. Once Oreo had her puppies, it became quite clear just how emaciated she was. You could see every bone in her poor body, and she was giving every bit of nutrients she had to her nine puppies. Oreo’s previous owners apparently did not care for her health or that of the puppies growing inside of her.

4 Paws 4 Rescue saved Oreo and her litter with help from the high-quality pet food donated by GreaterGood.org’s Rescue Bank. In no time Oreo had the strength she needed to care for both herself and the litter. Just take a look at that after picture! These days, Oreo is living the dream. The best family adopted her, and she is the happy, healthy girl that she always deserved to be!

“GreaterGood.org’s Rescue Bank has been extremely beneficial to our rescue. Getting this food allows us to spend more money on all the expensive vet care that most of the dogs that we receive require. Oreo is just one of many examples. As you can imagine, a starving Great Dane and her nine fast-growing pups went through large amounts of food rather quickly and had it not been for Rescue Bank, it would have been extremely expensive on top of already costly vet bills,” said 4 Paws 4 Rescue.
