Elderly Man Builds Mini Train To Give Rides To Rescue Dogs

If you’re like me, you secretly want to save all the homeless dogs in the world. At the very least, you might have the urge to give a meal or a belly rub to a random dog you see on the streets. They might be on their own, but it doesn’t mean they don’t deserve love from a human, writes moneysavingbasics.

Eugene Bostick, an 80-year-old man from Texas, has similar aspirations in terms of helping make homeless dogs’ lives just a little bit better. The retiree had a great idea to build a miniature train that he could hook up to his tractor so that he could give rides to rescued canines within his locality. He never thought his later years would be used to help dogs, but that’s exactly what he felt that he was cut out to do!

“We live down on a dead-end street, where me and my brother have a horse barn. People sometimes come by and dump dogs out here, leaving them to starve. So, we started feeding them, letting them in, taking them to the vet to get them spayed and neutered. We made a place for them to live,” Bostick explained.

Not only does he provide them a safe place to stay, but he genuinely wants them to be as happy as possible. That’s when he thought of the idea to create a dog train, which he successfully did.

“One day I was out and I seen this guy with a tractor who attached these carts to pull rocks. I thought, ‘Dang, that would do for a dog train.’ I’m a pretty good welder, so I took these plastic barrels with holes cut in them, and put wheels under them and tied them together.”

Now, Bostick has been giving dogs rides for years around his farm and has helped hundreds of strays in the process.

Bostick loves what he does but admits that he doesn’t know just how long he will be able to continue helping rescued canines.

“I’m getting up in age. I’m 80 now, so I suppose it can’t last too much longer, but I’ll keep it going as long as I can. The dogs have a great time. They just really enjoy it.”

But for now, Bostick thoroughly enjoys making many dogs’ lives exciting through his little train idea.

Hopefully one of his loved ones will continue on his legacy and that other people around the world will pick up on his commitment to saving canines so that even more dogs can have the fulfilling life they deserve.
